Tales From Bidong's 1975

Kuala Besut jetty is famous landing place for Vietnamese boat people's. These kinds of fishermens boat' s always helped Vietnamese when they enter Malaysian water.

Introduction

Hi, I 'am Sabri, a malaysian , live at fishing village just opposite the Pulau Bidong. In chilhood times I heard story about "orang pelarian" (refugee), "Pelarian vietnam" (Vietnam Refugee) or "orang hanyut" (floating people). Sometimes there are boats landing at my own village. Older person gave foods and water to them, but then our villagers too poor to supply more foods. Once when visited my sisters at the Kuala Terengganu Hospital , I found a vietnamese lady beside my sister's bed and changes some words with her. Unfotunately two days later for second visit she gone, (return to Pulau Bidong). In 1992 I went to Pulau Redang next of Pulau Bidong as a school terchers. Here , more and more tales about "Orang Vietnam" aired. Killed, died, raped, ransack, robbed and etc. There Redang's peopled who imprisoned for disturb vietnamese. Another story is a young ladies who thrown out by Thailands fisherman saved by Redang's fishermen. Today's that time was gone but i'm still here to hear and find out more stories about Bidong all over the world from ex refugees, from ex-task force Bidong, from my older villagers and from all.
